 RKIDs Events

The February 6 mini-ceili went off splendidly. Our guest caller, Marilyn Moore, quickly reviewed the Ballyvourney Jig Set, the 16-Hand Reel, the Lancers Set and several other favorites before the dancers enthusiastically took each one on. At the break, everyone enjoyed all the snacks and treats. The evening prepared us for the Blackthorn Ceili coming up on Friday, March 9th. There's more on that in an article below.

2017 Year End Ceili

Sonja announced that the RKIDs’  Year-End party will be held on Saturday, June 2 at St. Mary’s Pavilion in Barnesville. All the details are still being worked out. Stay tuned to our website for the latest news.

Plans for an RKID Trip to Ireland are coalescing. Bobbie, Kate, Ann Marie, Maddy, Bill, David M, Tom, Sonja, Maura, and Marilyn O met recently to get things going. Lots of things were discussed, and a tentative list of ideas was created. The prospective travelers are looking at touring either July or September of 2019 and covering the northern part of the island of Ireland, including Northern Ireland. The main areas of interest are: Dublin (all the sites), Belfast (Titanic Museum), Giant’s Causeway, Donegal (possibly Glencolmcile), Sligo (Carrowmore), Achill Island (famine village), Connemara (Kylemore Abbey), and Galway (all the sites). Much more needs to be worked out. Several others have indicated an interest in the trip once details are announced: Mary Ann and her daughter Amy, Jack, Carl and Jean Wi., Emmett, Kathy O, Dan O’C, and Maura’s husband Larry.

Happy Hour at Lahinch

Reelin’ at the Pub

Friday night at the Lahinch Tavern and Grill in Potomac is TRAD night, which means some of the finest musicians in the area are hired to entertain the locals with traditional Irish tunes. On a recent TRAD night, Jesse Winch, Mitch Fanning, and two other musicians joined forces to provide an evening of lively entertainment. Check out the video, taken by Marilyn:

Dining at Mo's
Expert Performers

Mo’s Seafood restaurant on Joppa Road in Towson, Maryland, hosted eight RKIDs for a pre-ceili dinner on the first Saturday in February. Tom, Sonja, Bill, Maddy, Connie, David M, Obie, and Marilyn O feasted on crab, grouper, shrimp, and salmon. The well-fortified group then took the short walk to the lively EIC ceili in the Atlantic Ballroom. There, these dancers met up with Jean Wds., Marilyn Moore, Jim Owens, Don Kaliher and the many members of the EIC that are well-known to our group. Jody called the ceili dances; Don led us in the set dances. It was a great time with friends and dancing and live music by Peter Fitzgerald and the J. Patrick's All Stars. Here's a sample:

Mark your calendars! Plans are being finalized for the Blackthorn Ceili on Friday, March 9th, 7 – 10:30 pm. Obie has hired the band, made the dance list, and recruited his volunteers. Once again it will take place at McCathran Hall in Washington Grove. Visit this link for the latest details.
Enjoying the Show

Maura and Larry can’t get enough of Riverdance. They recently enjoyed the performance of the 20th Anniversary Riverdance show at the Warner Theatre. “It never disappoints” said Maura, who had seen the show five times before.

Together in Texas

Dan and Nancy traveled to Austin to help celebrate their daughter-in-law’s 50th birthday. This was a great chance to visit with the grandchildren, too.

It's Better Bein' in
the Caribbean, Mon

Toni and David are off in the Caribbean basking in the sun, soaking up the rays, listening to Irish music, and (apparently) snorkeling. Hope they come home! Rumor is Larisa and Michelle are there too!
